This is a Bible Study about Who God Is.
God Is?
Genesis 1:1
Matthew 6:9
So who is God and how do we get to know Him, let alone become like Him? I’m glad you asked. He is revealed to us in the first book of the Bible, the book of Genesis in the first verse where it says “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth “. In this verse we discover that God Almighty consists of two things. He is the first for it says “In the beginning “, meaning there was nothing else before Him. Secondly that He is Supreme over all for He created everything ( The Creator is always greater than the created). There is none greater than God. In the New Testament, in the book of Mathew chapter 6 verse 9 God says ” After this manner pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name.” Here He reveals through Jesus that He is our Heavenly Father. This means that He loves, He provides, He protects, He disciplines and He takes good care of all of His children in all aspects of their living, to the point where they don’t have to worry.
Now that we know who God is let us see what God is. Surely God is many things but here we will focus on three main aspects. First Jesus said God our Heavenly Father is a Spirit, John 4:23-24. This means that He is not flesh and blood like you and me, He never was and probably never will be (Jesus was in the flesh but now He is not ). So the only way that God can communicate (relate to, be in relationship with, worshiped) with us is through the Spirit. Secondly the Bible says that He is the absolute truth, Psalm 31:5. Our Father who is in heaven knows everything for He created everything therefore He knows the absolute truth about everything. He can communicate this or these truths to us in whole or in part and it will be truth because He said it. Illustrate: Car manual for a car. The Bible says that God is love, I John 4:8. This means that the very essence of what God is can be summed up in one Word, Love. Not hatred, killing, meanness, hurt and pain but Love. If you ever want to think about what God is to you, think that He loves you with a perfectly pure and completely whole love.
